THE NEPTUNE THEATRE:
A Case Study
Telling the insightful and important story of a 100-year old theatre located in the University District of Seattle that has been owned by a single family, leased by many, and has adapted to survive, despite the odds.

This case study spotlighting the historic Neptune Theatre, located in the University District of Seattle, was published as a part of Seattle University’s Arts Ecosystem Research Project in 2020. It started, fittingly, as a class project for a Cultural Infrastructure and Facilities class, but demanded further attention and research, capturing our attention and dragging us down historic rabbit holes and record troves. The initial case study was updated, slightly expanded, and finally published and publicly released on ScholarWorks in 2020.
We may expand and further develop this document into a book that tells the four stories of the Neptune Theatre’s history: The Land, The Building, The Business/Theatre, and The Family, but in the meantime, the case study can be found and downloaded here.
